For families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the Imperial Valley, the journey can often feel like navigating a path without a map. While awareness of autism has grown significantly over the last decade, finding localized, consistent, and face-to-face support right here in El Centro and the surrounding areas remains a top priority for our community.
At Raizes Inc., we believe that no family should have to travel to San Diego or beyond to find a community that understands their daily triumphs and challenges. That is why we are proud to host and power the Autism Support Network, an initiative by Access Point 360.
Why Local Support Matters
Imperial County is a unique place with a tight-knit culture, but rural settings can sometimes lead to a feeling of isolation for “special needs” families. Research consistently shows that parents and caregivers who participate in support groups experience:
- Reduced Stress: Sharing experiences with those who “get it” provides immediate emotional relief.
- Navigational Help: Fellow parents are often the best source for finding the right doctors, therapists, and school advocates within the Imperial Valley.
- Social Connection: It creates a safe space for individuals on the spectrum and their families to build friendships without the fear of judgment.
Introducing the Autism Support Network
The Autism Support Network, provided by Access Point 360, is more than just a meeting; it is a gathering of neighbors helping neighbors. Held at the Raizes Office in El Centro, this group is open to anyone seeking support or information related to autism.
What can you expect at a meeting?
- Open Discussions: A chance to speak freely about your journey.
- Resource Sharing: Access to updated information on local disability services.
- Guest Speakers: Periodic visits from experts in the fields of therapy, education, and health.
